  Peter Gerard Gelinas

Date of Birth: August 6, 1967
Department: Mortgage Backed Bond Broker
Position: Partner

Pete had such a beautiful spirit. Pete loved life and he was filled with a never-ending enthusiasm that he extended to each and every person that he met. Anyone who met Pete-even just in passing-walked away thinking “what a great guy”. He was the most genuine, generous, happy and fun loving person I have ever known and we are better people for having had him in our lives.
There was not a part of Pete’s life that he did not enjoy. He loved his job at Cantor Fitzgerald and the excitement and challenges that came with it. He loved our life in Bronxville and the close friends that we have made these past five years. And to Pete’s friends from Villanova were the brothers he never had.
As a husband, Pete always made me feel so special. The sparkle in his eye gave me so much happiness and we had such joy in all that we did and all that we shared. When I married Pete he made a good life great and I will miss him unspeakably every day for the rest of my life.
As a Father, I can only say that his spirit goes on in Jack and Griffin. Nothing was more important to Pete than the time he spent with the boys whether it was fishing, bike riding, his recent camping overnight with Jack-or simply walking around with Griffin on his shoulders. He always looked forward to coaching little league, boy scouts, football games and being an influential part of their lives.
If we can remember all of the ways Pete touched our lives, and pass it on to his boys, then his spirit will live on in them. It is so important to me that his children know just how special he was- so please share his life with them…as I will do every day.
And finally, as Pete died on my birthday I feel the need to recognize his life as my biggest gift. He is the finest person I have ever known and as short as my time was with him was, I am forever blessed for having loved him.

Michelle Gelinas, Wife
  • I had the pleasure of working w/ Pete for 2 years at Cantor. As a fellow graduate of Villanova, we had a great time sharing stories of the “good old days”. In the business we were in, without question, at times arguements ensued, but never once did Pete & I ever have a problem. I liked & admired him very much. All my sympathies go to his family. I’m very sorry he is gone.

  • I first met Pete in 1985 during my Freshman year at Villanova. He had come down from Madison, CT during his Senior year in high school to check out the campus. He was as dynamic then as now. I was fortunate to live with Pete his Junior Year at VU. I always joked with him that he is the only guy I know who had four Senior Years. He partied like a rock star. Everyone knew him and those who did not, wanted to. He has so many friends for good reason. Pete was always upbeat and passionate about friendships. When he entered a room, it was like a hurricane with all the energy he supplied. It was rare to get Pete alone, but when you did you knew it was special. I, like many of us, have plenty of Pete Gelinas stories to tap into forever. Knowing how much Pete is loved and by how many people, I am proud to have shared a part of his life. He is one of a kind. He is impossibe to forget.

  • I used to work with Pete in Mortgage Backed Securities with Glen “o”, Matty “o” and Dion. I used to play hoops with Pete and go to the polo grounds with him and the fellas after. He was a great person, fun, active and outgoing. He loved his Nova Wildcats and spoke about them often. He was a lot of fun to be around and will be missed. My prayers go out to the Gelinas family and I will always have a fond memory of Pete. He will always be remembered.

  • I went to Xavier High School with Pete and also had him in most of my classes all 4 years. We went on all of the school retreats together including the Leadership conference “XLI”. Pete was a kind, sensitive guy as well as competitive, passionate and loyal. I lost a part of myself, the day Pete died. To his family, I am very sorry for for your loss. I am confident, knowing Pete, that he spent the rest of 9-11 standing at the gates of heaven, with a football tucked under his arm, a grin on his face, while trying to get a pick up game going. God Bless him and his family.

  • Pete,
I still today have trouble understanding that you are not meeting me tonight for our weekly get together. You were the inspiration to my everyday life and the voice I loved to hear every day. You were not only the spirit of wall street, but the spirit of life that everyone needs every day. I miss you…..You chose me as your best man and that was the best of honors that I have ever been chosen for. We did have so many of the greatest times that anyone would ever wish for and I am so grateful that I spent them with you. I live each day never forgeting how much I love you. Nothing in my life will never be as tough as the eulogy I gave and I will never let your spirit that you gave me ever expire. You are and always will be my best friend. I miss you more than you know and things will never be the same without you. You were the man that I will always model myself after and always know that we should always think of life as a walk in the park! I will always remember what you gave to me and that is to be an honest man in being strong, faithfull in God, and knowing that you should never expect from anyone than what you can give of yourself. I love you Pete!

  • I met Pete as we pledged a fraternity together at Villanova. Every fraternity had their pledges play each other in football, and though we were always outnumbered, Pete always convinced us that we would win, and we did, never losing a game. I was witness to his enthusiasm and energy for 4 years. His ability to energize others with his passion will never be matched. I consider myself lucky to have experienced Pete. My thoughts are always with his family.

  • The very first person I met at Villanova in August 1986 was this guy who appeared to be “larger than life”. I had the privilege to spend the next 15 years as a classmate, teammate, roommate and most importantly FRIEND of Pete Gelinas. The world lost one of its best on Sept. 11. To Michelle, Jack, Griffin and the rest of Pete’s family & friends – my continued deepest sympathies.
