Darryl L. McKinney Jr., known to all as “Pop”, was born on December 29, 1974 at Albert Einstein Hospital in the Bronx.

He received his education in the New York City school system. He attended Colgate Day Care at age three. From there he attended public school 93 and 152 in District 8. In June of 1993, he graduated from Chelsea High School.

Darryl loved basketball. He played basketball in schoolyards and the neighborhood parks. He also had the opportunity to attend various basketball camps and was recognized for his talents with numerous trophies and plaques.

In 1993, Darryl received a full Athletic Academic Scholarship to Elmira College in Elmira, New York, to play basketball. He was one of the team’s star players and also was on the Athletic Advisory Board. In 1997, he received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science and also in 1998, his Masters in Adult Education. After college he participated in various year round tournaments, including the famous Rucker’s.

Darryl was employed in the year 2000 with Cantor Fitzgerald as a Brokerage clerk. He was preparing to take the series seven exam for his broker’s license on September 22, 2001.

“Pop” had a love for life. His strength and determination should be an inspiration to all when facing life’s challenges. Whatever he did, he gave it his best. In life, he felt nothing beats a failure but a try, and accomplished the goals which he set.

Darryl will always be in our hearts and minds and his love for life will always live on in us.
