  Alexander Robbins Steinman

Date of Birth: January 12, 1969
Department: Institutional Equities
Position: Vice President and Partner

Alex was known for living life double time, and for always thinking and acting in a “big” way. His life was undoubtedly too short, but very full. He was a loyal and loving husband, brother, son, grandson, nephew and
friend. Alex devoted great energy and passion to all persons lucky enough to be included in his circle of life. He so enjoyed making people laugh and his generosity and spirit infected everyone he touched.

We spent our last days together attending a wedding in Italy…Alex was surrounded by an audience of many of our best friends and family. We returned on the afternoon of Monday, September 10th and he was eager to get back to work on Tuesday to touch base with his clients, and catch up with his co-workers. Alex took great pride in his work and so enjoyed the company of his colleagues and clients, many of whom were good friends, too. They all worked hard — and played hard — together. I can only imagine that they stuck together in the end, supporting and comforting each other on that tragic morning.

Alex, I was blessed to have known you for over 17 years. You were my high school sweetheart, my husband and my best friend. My heart is filled with years of memories. We so loved to reminisce…looking back at our fun-loving days together as teenagers always made us smile – especially the
story of our first kiss on my birthday – a gift that has enriched my life ever since.

Our lives were completely intertwined. You must know that your absence has gone through me like a needle…everything I do is stitched with its color. My words to you under your photograph on my high school yearbook page will always ring true: “If I could reach up and hold a star for each time you’ve made me smile, an entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.”

You have left an indelible mark on this world and on the lives of so many friends and family. We all miss you incredibly. The void we feel is huge. Although, we will forge ahead through the seasons and years to come, keeping
your memory, spirit, love and laughter alive, forever.

  • Alex and I knew each other since we were little children. My brothers and Alex were best friends and I always considered Alex like a third brother. Alex and I worked together for five years and we used to have so much fun. Some of the best times were spent together. He was a loving friend whose ability to make everyone laugh will last a lifetime. I am so happy we were able to spend the last week before the 11th in Italy. I will cherish those days forever. I miss you!!!

    XOXO, Colleen

  • Aldo,

Tracy, to no surprise, started this out with a tremendous tribute. We love you Tracy.

There is not an hour of the day that I don’t think of you or miss you with my entire heart. I truly believe that you are in a better place now with your mother, Mom Mom, Pop Pop, Ruthy and Gerard. It’s actually a great crowd.

I’m so happy, blessed and proud that I was fortunate enough to spend your last days at Richie and Franchesca’s wedding with you and the people you loved and cherished. Al, I have so many memories but the ones from Italy will remain closest to my heart. Thank you for being there that week, it’s made it that much easier.

Another Ireland trip will soon be upon us and I can promise you that we will tip more then a few in your memory and the memory of all heroes who perished on September 11th. You made so many friends there over the years that were so devastated to hear about your fate. Your excitement and enthusiasm for the Ireland trips will never be matched nor will the trips ever be the same.

Please tell all the boys, Larry, Sean O, Vinny and all the rest that Wendy and I pray for them and their families every day.

Your departure was entirely too soon. You will hear from me again my good friend. I will forever remember you, cherish you and love you. My children will know who their uncle Alex was, and what you meant to all of us.

    Your Truest and Dearest Pal,
    Sean Kelleher

  • I am grateful and very lucky to be your friend. Those that were fortunate enough to be “the chosen ones” passed your stringent guidelines of being quality people who also shared your passion for life. When someone is introduced as a friend of Alex’s – you know three things: they enjoy life, they are “good people” and they can tell hilarious “Alex stories” for days.
Someone could be in the worst mood, but when they saw you, they just had to crack a big smile. You simply had that rare ability to make everyone around you feel special. When you were talking to someone, your complete attention was on that person – nothing distracted you. When Alex talked to you, you felt important.
When I think of the times in my life that I had the most fun – I was with you and when I think about those whose words changed my life – they were yours. I will cherish your wisdom and your spirit for as long as I live. I’m gonna miss you Big Guy.

  • I knew Alex through my best friend Laurence Polatsch. I only met you a handful of times but one thing for sure is that I saw how you had lived your life with such power and fun. You always had a smile on your face, always were eager to start a conversation, and always made me laugh. I only wish I could have gotten to know you better.

    Gary Bell, Friend
  • During his time at Cantor I had almost daily contact with Alex. He worked closely with my wife Val. I know that Val had such a special felling for Alex. I feel great about having known him and I share his loss with Tracy and the rest of his family and so many other friends. He had the right stuff and I am so glad that I knew him.

  • Who would believe that we find ourselves only days away from the day that changed our lives for ever. There is not a day that goes by where I think if only . If only alex had not gone to work
That he was still in Italy. I wonder where you are
who your with? what your doing? I miss you more then I could write. I carry you with me always. I
think you might have been with me in Alantic City last week. I won big and It felt like I had some luck on my side.

  • We are all very lucky to have known Alex. I was very fortunate to have met Alex freshman year in high school. His personality emminated a tremendous amount of positive energy. It was and still is impossible to be sad when his prescence is around. Alex is the human manifestation of positive energy. Through the power of ones’ positive energy and personality we have no limits. This is what he will always represent to the world.
