  John Bulaga Jr

Date of Birth: November 7, 1965
Position: Network Engineer

I am one of John’s many cousins. John was a great person. I didn’t see him much, but whenever I did see him, he was always so happy. I remember the two times I did see him; the one time was at Thankgiving at him mom’s house. We were sitting at the table and he was telling me how big my son got. This is when his wife, Michelle, was pregnant with their second daughter. I could see in his eyes how excited he was for his daughter to arrive. The other time I saw him was at a family barbeque at his home. John loved spending time with the family, and I personally wish I spent more time with him.

John, we all saddened by your sudden departure and we all miss you. We will never forget you. Your daughters will always know the kind of person/dad you were and no one will ever let them forget it.

Your Cousin Forever

  Patrick Joseph Buhse

Date of Birth: March 16, 1965
Department: Government Bonds
Position: Vice President / Limited Partner

I do not think I have the words to describe the man, my treasure, my hero, Patrick Joseph Buhse. Anyone who has the pleasure of knowing Patrick will remember his light, his spirit and his love in their own special way.

Although his time was cut much too short, I will look back with no regrets. I am only thrilled that I had my time, my love, and my children with him. Patrick lived a very rich, very full life. He never held back on anything and knew the true meaning of the word F-U-N. He loved vehemently, spent generously, acted unselfishly and laughed wholeheartedly. We will never forget the humor, the stories, and of course, the dancing without smiles on own faces.

I do not think I have to say how sad I am, how enraged and how cheated I feel for myself, Sloan, and William. So many unfulfilled dreams all shattered in a single moment of a single day that will live forever in infamy. But Patrick’s legacy will always live on. He will always be in our hearts and in our souls. I see him every day in the faces of my children, in the eyes of his sister and brothers and in the love that is his family. Each time I see our friends I will remember the good times with joy and be very proud to have known him even if for only one second.

I trust that wherever you are now will have many televisions to watch the Knicks, March Madness, the Jets and any comedy even though you have seen it a thousand times. I hope the Budweisers are cold and the Absolute Citrons (no fruit!) flow. I hope the radio never stops playing Rap, Disco, Country or whatever is your latest find.

I trust that you and all the guys are looking down at us knowing we WILL be okay even now in our despair and sheer insanity and know it was ALL worthwhile.

Please know we will miss you dearly, will treasure you always and will love you every waking day of our lives.

Our love, our hugs, and smiles,
Susan, Sloan & Wil

  Dennis Buckley

Date of Birth: January 31, 1963
Department: Municipal Bonds
Position: Partner/Vice President

There are no words to express who Dennis was to our children and me. Instead, I’ve chosen to share the common thread that everyone who knew him, either personally or professionally, remembered about him. It is, of course, his laughter.

In many ways that laugh personified who Dennis was. His laugh was the most genuine, happy sound I have ever heard. He would laugh so completely that his entire body shook, and when you heard him laugh you couldn’t help but laugh yourself. It just made you feel good. It was a completely honest laugh, just like Dennis, and it came from the bottom of his heart.

It was the laugh of a man who loved and enjoyed life, who was confident and comfortable with who he was and what he had accomplished but yet somehow remained unpretentious. Dennis was a completely grounded person who you could truly count on. He never lost the ability to appreciate the little things in life, which he knew were really the most important things in life. Those qualities enabled him to be successful on every level.

Of course nothing made him laugh more than the antics of his three little girls. Not a day went by that laughter didn’t fill our house and our hearts. These are just some of the many reasons why I fell in love with Dennis and knew he was the man I would marry. Our children completed our family and our happiness. He was a terrific husband and father and I am grateful to have shared in his life. I will miss his friendship, his honesty, his laughter and his love. Today. Tomorrow. Always.

  Brandon Buchanan

Date of Birth: April 9, 1977
Position: Equity Trading

Brandon was walking when he was 9 and 1/2 months old and was running soon thereafter! He was a bit precocious and a bit of a challenge in that his vast mental capacity was limited only by the small size of infant, toddler and childhood bodies. By the age of 9, he was extremely independent and could have supported himself (if child labor laws permitted). I know now that he had a lot of living to do with very little time in which to do it.
Throughout high school, college and particularly at Cantor Fitzgerald, he matured into a very fine young man. Brandon, by his name’s definition, “beacon light,” was truly a light in our lives and always showed us the good, the daring, the vibrant and the adventure in life. He will remain our shining star, our golden boy.
Brandon was as beautiful inside as he was outside. He was charismatic, charming, persistent, kind-hearted, witty, conservative, hard-working, thoughtful, sociable, gentle and oh, so much fun to be with. He was famous for making the funniest hand gestures, facial expressions and noises. He was proficient in making sounds o We learned so much more from him than we could ever hope to teach. We miss you, Beeje, and will love you always.

  Edward Brennan

Date of Birth: April 28, 1964
Department: Government Bonds
Position: Vice President

Edward A. “Ted” Brennan, III was born on April 28, 1964 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The oldest of four children, he grew up in Sea Girt, New Jersey at the Jersey Shore, a place Ted loved, was so proud of, and where his parents still reside.

Ted graduated from Portsmouth Abbey School in 1982 and the College of the Holy Cross in 1986. Following graduation he began his career on Wall Street at Drexel Burnham Lambert, and for the last eleven years was a Vice President, Institutional Broker and Salesman at Cantor Fitzgerald. Like so many others at Cantor, Ted survived the 1993 WTC bombing by running down 105 floors to safety. He formed very close bonds with his co-workers, and thoroughly enjoyed life in New York City where he kept an apartment on the East Side. Almost every day after work he and John Farrell were off to the gym to work out.

What he cherished most though was the comfort and tradition of life at his family home in Sea Girt, New Jersey. Ted took great joy in the things that filled his days – time spent with his family, friends, and his fiancée Meghan Daly, several rounds on the golf course, and working out at the gym. Ted was fully committed to all of it, from the countless hours spent perfecting his golf game to his unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Ted embraced life and people recognized that. His sharp mind and quick wit made him magnetic, people just liked being around Ted. We will remember and love him forever.

  Albert Balewa Blackman

Date of Birth: February 3, 1975
Position: Jr. Equities Accountant

Albert Balewa Blackman Jr. was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY.
Affectionately known as Balewa or B-Rock by his friends and family, he was a joy to the hearts of his parents, Hyacinth and Albert, and sister Susan. Balewa was intelligent, modest, funny, and mature beyond his years. At the tender age of two, he was known to pick up the Wall Street Journal and mimic his father. When he started school he was always very helpful. Balewa would finish his test and proceed to help his classmates, much to his teacher’s dismay. After graduating from James Madison High School, Balewa went on to Cornell University to major in biochemical engineer. Balewa graduated in 1996 and was ready to venture into the job world.
Balewa started working for Cantor Fitzgerald in August 2000. Dedicated to his job, he would be the first to arrive and the last to leave. He spent his off-time with his Cornell buddies, going to the gym, and his first love music. After a long day at Cantor, you could find Balewa in his room creating music. He turned his bedroom into a music studio with high tech equipment. He loved the old jazz legends, and fused jazz into his creations.
As a son, brother, uncle, and friend, you couldn’t be prouder. Balewa has touched so many lives and hearts in his 26 years. His life was not cut short. God just decided to use it to touch more.

Balewa’s family

My baby brother, when you were born I was so happy. I was officially a big sister. I was going to protect you no matter what. It would be you and me against the world. Then we got older and you broke my favorite Barbie. It was then you and I against each other. But the love was still there. The teenage years came along and it was you and I against our parents. Approaching adulthood we became occupied with our own little worlds. We still made time for each other and we became closer, not just siblings but good friends. It was you and I against the world again. Balewa, I miss you so much, your love of family, your music, your sarcastic remarks, you just being you. I will make sure your niece knows what a wonderful uncle she has. I love you.

  Michelle Renee Bratton

Date of Birth: April 26, 1978
Department: Marketing
Position: Executive Assistant

Michelle was a determined spirit, as evidenced by her numerous accomplishments as a NCAA diver, choral awards and scholastic recognitions. Having just completed college (S.U.N.Y. at Oswego) in May of 2000, Michelle set out to make her mark on New York City. She enjoyed her short four weeks as a member of the Cantor Fitzgerald/eSpeed family, relishing the new challenges and opportunities. As well, Michelle was absolutely ecstatic about working “On Top of the World” on the 105th floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower.

At Michelle’s Memorial Service, one of her classmates and best friends from Pine Bush High School authored the following poem, which best captures Michelle’s spirit:

A Poem for Michelle

A voice that sang beside me
A harmony on the flute
A treasure you are to all
For this is your tribute

From a glide down a diving board
To a twist in the air
From a walk down a hallway
To a flip of your curly brown hair
A never forgotten smile
That went from ear to ear
A laugh heard around the world
You are that beautiful girl
From a “Pretty Woman” prom dress
To a princess at the ball
From trips to the Jersey Shore
To your favorite place – the Mall
From a blue and yellow parka
With a hood pulled over your head
To a lap down the swimming pool
Pushing yourself to the end
From chants standing on a starting block
To arouse our team
To a parade route on a truck
A look in your eyes – A Gleam!
So from now until that day, Michelle
That day we will all meet again
We each take with us
A piece of a treasured friend
So this I say to you Michelle
Your family and all that can hear
Today is but a tribute to you
And a legacy we will all hold near

  Alfred J. Braca

Date of Birth: November 11, 1946
Position: Corporate Bond Broker

There is a lot to be said about Al. He was an incredible dad, husband, and granddaddy. He had an enormous love and dedication towards his family. Al was extremely active at his church where he served as an elder, and a board member.

Al’s time on earth will be remembered as a man who loved the Lord Jesus
Christ with all of his heart. He lived what might be called a “Godly
lifestyle”. Simply meaning that he tried his best to live his life
according to the Bible. So, with all that could be said about him, we
believe that Al would want us to tell the world of the message of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ, and how God came down from heaven in the form of a man to be murdered on a cross just so man can have a relationship with God. Those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible says you will live forever. So you see, we believe that right now, Al is very much alive, and even in the midst of a disgusting, and inhumane act like 9-11-01, we choose to Praise God. Simply because He is worthy to be Praised. As hard as it is, God cannot get the blame for what happened on 9/11.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled though the mountains shake with its swelling. There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn. The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Come, behold the works of the Lord, who has made desolations in the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire. Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

  Shawn E. Bowman Jr.

Date of Birth: September 16, 1972
Position: Human Resources Information Specialist

Shawn was a wonderful man, father, husband and he was my best friend. He was the type of man that would do anything for anyone. He enjoyed working at Cantor- one because of the hours and because of the people at Cantor. But, even though he was a dedicated worker his top priority was his son. Shawn would take his son to McDonald’s every Saturday for breakfast and then they would go play in the park-splash in puddles. Shawn was an active Boy Scout leader. He would take our son to meetings every Friday. Shawn was looking forward to the birth of our second son. We had just decided on a name the night before 9/11. Shawn was a man everyone respected, he did say what was on his mind, which would get him into trouble every now and then, but he would be there to help in the next breath. Shawn in college would volunteer his time- he was a volunteer Fire Fighter and would drive physical challenged people, to where they needed to be. I will miss him greatly but what bothers me more is that my children will not really know how wonderful their father was and how many lives he had touched. I taught my son that Shawn is a star in the sky, and that he is looking over him. I truly believe that Shawn was a star on earth and now he is looking over everyone he loved.
